Mill-Max series 117, 127, 217 & 227 shrinkDIP sockets accommodate memory chips and components which have pin-to-pin spacing of .070" (1,778mm). The reduced pattern of the shrinkDIP series also saves valuable board space for board-to-board connections as more pin connections can be made using less "real estate" than standard .100" pitch patterns. They can also be mated with series 162 shrinkDIP headers for board-to-board connections.

The Mill-Max series 317 & 327 single-row "shrinkSIPs" are an ideal solution for most microelectronic applications. Mated with series 862 headers, they save critical board space when connecting two small boards together.

Available in both through-hole and surface mount, the Mill-Max shrinkDIP and shrinkSIP series sockets and headers are the perfect solution for today's products where designs are continually pressed to become smaller and smaller.

Art of Silence - Sunon “Super Silence” Fan Introduces a New Concept to Hearing

Technology is fast becoming indispensable through its ability to enhance the quality of our lives. In addition to the design, color and variety of raw materials, the sounds generated by the operation of equipment can have a profound influence on users’ attitude about a product by creating an impression at the subconscious level. The Sunon “Super Silence” Fan takes the customers’ feelings into special consideration. The rotating bearings, the wind from its fa n blades, and the air flow from the system have all been carefully adjusted to ensure that Sunon “Super Silence” Fan s are stab le and quiet. Our primary concern is to create a comforting audio environment.

SUNON Sound Quality System Leads to a New Experience of Quietude
Over the years, engineers have evaluated the noise of fans by measuring sound pressure and sound power . These engineers generally agree that cooling fan s with lower dB(A) have higher sound quality . Since Sunon adopted a sound quality system in 2000, it has endeavored to strike an optimal balance between different sound quality parameters such as loudness, tonality, roughness, fluctuation, and sharpness. Sunon ’s perseverance in pursuing the best noise quality is demonstated by its continuous effort in technological research and development. The Sunon “Super Silence” Fan Series , which provides excellent sound quality, is the fruit of seven years of practical experience.

Sound quality systems were initially adopted by international auto makers to conduct research on the response of the human ear to certain sound s. For instance, in order to create a sense of security , they adjusted the sound that is generated when a car door comes into contact with its chassis . Through the combination of a Head Measurement System (HMS) from Germany’s Head Acoustics Company and 24-bit digital processing technology, the audio effects on human ears can be recorded and imitated . Data such as sound, vibration, speed, and electrical signals can be collected so that we can achieve an optim al balance between frequency, loudness, sharpness, and other objective parameters . Furthermore, by conducting in-depth analysis of parameters such as time-domain, frequency and psychological acoustics, Sunon’s sound quality has greatly improved. This sound quality system creates a silent, comfort able, and un disturbed environment , which results in optimal acoustic performance of a rotating fan.

Sunon Micro-Motor Technology
To ensure the con sistently high performance of the Sunon “Super Silence” Fan, its design is consistent with micro-motor technology. T he surface area of the fan blades has been enlarged and the space between the fans and air-flow channels has been maximized. As a result, the fan has excellent cooling effects and near-silent sound quality. T o provide customers products in the R & D stage, the reference design is more flexible. With low voltage characteristic, this series is designed for a wide range of uses. The overall flow of heat current is nearly perfect.

Super Silence
Sunon’s “Super Silence” fan series was tested with standard digital home equipment located one meter away from the user. Based upon "ISO 532B hearing sensation" and charts on human auditory reactions that were plotted for different decibel and frequency levels, the threshold noise level for Sunon's Super Silence series' is below 20 phon, the minimum level that is discernible in daily living.

To provide clients with the most flexible esign solutions, Sunon has combined the business units of precision motors, cooling fans and cooling modules, added the full support of our strong R&D teams, and integrat ed the service and sales departments with the production and logistics departments. This allows Sunon to provide our clients with the innovations needed to help them develop their new-generation products. In turn, this allows our clients to experience firsthand the true meaning of the “Brand Name, Innovation, and Value” philosophy behind Sunon and to realize the ideal of “peace of mind through Sunon,” “realizing system miniaturization and ease of use through Sunon,” and “the future and hope of society through Sunon” become realized.

ERNI Electronics Debuts Robust, Right Angled D-Sub Connector With Press-Fit Termination

I/O connector is screwed to the PCB for a more secure hold

Adelberg, November 25, 2008 – ERNI Electronics has introduced a new connector to its comprehensive range of D-Sub connectors with SMT, THR, press-fit and soldering termination. The latest addition to the product family is a right angled D-sub connector with press-fit technology, which can be screwed to the PCB with M3 or 4#40 UNC threads after press fitting. In comparison to standard press-fit clips, this makes the attachment even more secure. This is particularly important in applications where the PCB is subjected to additional force due to the use of larger and heavier cable housings.

Press-fit technology has certain processing advantages when used on backplanes and PCBs that cannot be reflow soldered, or in cases where large quantities of other press-fit connectors such as DIN 41612/IEC 60603-2 or 2.0mm HM connectors are being used on the same PCB. However, press-fit technology is also an effective solution in situations where connectors’ high heat capacity causes soldering problems (small components overheat). Press-fit technology is also characterized by being more reliable than soldering technology.

The new right angled robust D-Sub press-fit connector is already available with a standard assembly height of 7.3 mm, and will shortly be followed by a Eurostyle version with an assembly height of 3.6 mm. The connectors are available with 9, 12, 25 or 37 pins. The male contacts are gold-plated, and the female contacts are tin-plated. The family of connectors complies with the IEC 807-3 and DIN 41652 standards, and is suitable for lead-free soldering (RoHS compliant).

The integrated locking accessories (“jack screws”) provide a low-impedance ground connection, and also reliably anchor the cable housing to the connector. Versions are available with threads (M3 or 4#40 UNC) and threaded bolts (M3 or 4#40 UNC).

Further details on the comprehensive range of D-Sub products from ERNI Electronics are available in a product catalogue that is available for download from the Web site: http://www.erni.com/DB/PDF/TMC/ERNI-D-Sub-Connectors-e.pdf

Prices for the new D-Sub begin at $1.0 for the 9-pin version (male or female).

The receptacles are placed into plated-thru-holes in the circuit board (solder paste has previously been screen printed on pads adjacent to the holes) and the board is reflowed in the same pass as other SMT components. Solder will fill the plated-thru-holes and achieve solder joints as reliable as wave soldering. The Organic Fibre Plug® prevents solder paste from being picked-up inside the contact during pick ‘n place assembly.

"Overprinting" paste on the solder mask can be used to adjust the volume of paste required to fill each hole.

ERNI Electronics Offers Blind-Mate MicroSpeed Connector

ERNI Electronics Offers Blind-Mate MicroSpeed Connector

Blind-mate designs ensure robust connection

Adelberg, November 11, 2008 – ERNI Electronics has expanded its MicroSpeed family to include a new Blind-Mate version for mezzanine card applications. The MicroSpeed connector is a 1.0-mm pitch system using SMT technology for data rates up to 10Gbit/s. The MicroSpeed is available in 50 signal contact modules and is designed to be used in multiples between two parallel cards without mating issues from negative tolerance stack up. The MicroSpeed design advantage allows many smaller connectors to be used to shorten PCB traces, reduce PCB layers and even improve system airflow by providing a narrow profile. Two rows of 50 signal contacts with perimeter shielding present an ‘open pin field’ design suitable for differential and single-ended requirements.

The new Blind-mate designs have integrated guide pins with higher displacement tolerances to stop incorrect, forced connections. Reinforced housing side walls absorb the larger forces that may result from virtual "blind mating" to prevent connector damage while providing a positive connection. This characteristic offers advantages specifically with larger, heavier PCBs which can be connected without additional board guides. MicroSpeed Blind-mate will initially be introduced in the standard height of 1 mm for the male connectors and 4 mm for the female parts for a combined 5 mm board-to-board height. Additional heights of the MicroSpeed Blind-mate as well as additional heights of the MicroSpeed PowerModule are planned. Please contact ERNI Electronics for additional information.

The SMT or SMT/THR version ensures fully automatic processing using the conventional SMT assembly and reflow-soldering process. The longitudinal pitch of MicroSpeed connectors is 1 mm and the transverse pitch is 1.5 mm (for impedance purposes). Differential signal pairs can be arranged horizontally or vertically. Optimized crosstalk behavior is achieved with a parallel configuration of the signal pairs (in the longitudinal direction) and the pairing arrangement of signal and shield contact pairs.

The standard MicroSpeed is available in 16 different stack heights or board-to-board heights from 5 mm up to 20 mm with every height in between in just 1 mm increments. Yet all these heights are achieved by ‘mixing and matching’ four different male and four different female connectors. At the same time, the perimeter shielding provides robust SMT or THR mechanical strain relief for the most reliable soldering experience possible. MicroSpeed male and female connectors are supplied in tape-on-reel packaging. Additional design features for fully automatic assembly are: Black insulating bodies made of LCP for fast and reliable visual recognition as well as a pre-mounted placement aid for easy gripping.

DemoBoards, SPICE models and an evaluation kit are available for the MicroSpeed connectors.

Finally, our new website is up and running. Still a few bugs, but mostly it's a go!

Over the next weeks and months we'll be adding more functionality, links, videos and slideshows of our cababilities.

I think the first video will spotlight our cable assembly operation. We are working on that now. We want to show our customers what we build and allow them to get a feel for how professional our cable assembly operation truly is.
